Research and new technology

LG&E and KU often collaborate with universities, utility partners, industry organizations, government agencies and other research entities to understand and demonstrate technologies that will keep energy reliable, competitively priced and environmentally responsible.

LG&E and KU's Dr. David Link explains the research that goes into Kentucky’s first megawatt-scale carbon capture pilot unit, located at our E.W. Brown Generating Station. It will test the ability to integrate carbon capture technology at an existing power plant and the feasibility of integrating these types of technologies for commercial-scale carbon capture systems.
